Are you a crime junkie? Then this episode is for you! We discuss our favorite crime shows and documentaries with our special guest, Dr. Meg Chrusciel. Dr. Chrusciel gives us some insight into why people are fascinated with crime shows and tells us her favorites to binge. Be sure to listen as we give our recommendations of ones you should binge or cringe!

0:27- 1:25 : Sarah starts talking about her favorite crime show, Ozark. Carsyn chimes in to also give some insight on the show.
1:30-4:12: Carsyn turns the conversation towards talking about her favorite show, Criminal Minds. She says that one of the reason she likes the show is because she likes knowing they get caught. Do you like watching shows knowing the ending or unsolved crime shows? Paige, Carsyn, and Sarah debate their favorite characters and why. We had an unanimous vote that criminal minds is definitely a binge worthy show.
4:15-4:59: Sarah turns the conversation to the show SVU. We then start talking about how realistic these shows are.
5:00-7:10: We welcome our special guest Dr. Chrusciel. She starts talking about herself and her background with crime. We had to ask her favorite streaming service and crime show. Duh. Dr. Chrusciel brings up and talks about how Tiger King brought up an interesting criminal justice connection.
7:50-8:55: Sarah asks the question “Are these shows an accurate representation?” Dr. Chrusciel starts off answering the question talking about Criminal Minds. The show is definitely not a good or accurate representation but she bring mentions the episode with pig farmer was based off real life events. The show is based off some true events, but it is mostly dramatized.
9:00- 11:58: Early on in the episode Dr. Chrusciel mentions she taught a class about why people are so fascinated with serial murders. Sarah asks her to talk a little but about it. Dr. Chrusciel mentions one of the reasons is because the concept is so foreign to us. She mentions that sometimes we watch these shows for self-assurance that it will not be us and that we watch and study these serial killers so that we do not become them. Is it just a fascination or obsession? She says that many people watch these shows and study these people to answer these questions; How can someone do something this awful and how do I make sure it is not me?
12:00- 13:35 : The conversation starts to center around unsolved mysteries and crimes. We start to talk about how frustrating they are. Dr. Chrusciel then brings up the positive note that sometimes releasing these shows and talking about the unsolved cases get them solved or reopened.
13:40- 18:30: Sarah turns the conversation to Dope Stick. The opioids crisis is then brought up and discussed. Sarah talks about how her dads perspective on addiction changed from watch this show.
18:32-19:42: Madison brings up that this drug issue and crime we started talking about is similar to Breaking Bad. Dr. Chrusciel talks about how when this show came out it was like one of the first time that drug dealers were personified.
19:44-22:30: Dr. Chrusciel brings up the show Don’t F with Cats. Let’s just say the internet is a powerful place.
22:31-23:00: The conversation turns to real life crime diving into the Brain Laundrie case. Will this case turn into a Netflix documentary?
23:01-24:45: Dr. Chrusciel l brings up that a lot of cases we are familiar with deal with physically attractive people. We definitely pay attention to some victims more than others.
24:47-26:36: Dr. Chrusciel takes the conversation to her favorite crime show Mindhunters. She tells us that it is most definitely binge worthy.
26:40- 28:50: Carsyn and Sarah start to talk about the Netflix show Tinder Swindler.
28:50-30:35: There is no conversation about crime without talking about Ted Bundy. Dr. Chrusciel to us that Ted Bundy is her least favorite serial killer.
30:36- 35:45: Dr. Chrusciel gives some background on her favorite crime movie which is called Monster. This then leads us to the conversation on how the internet has a play in crime now a days.
35:46- 38:40: Carsyn starts to talk about the Athlete A and Jeffery Epstein and how the victims were able to speak out and were very vocal about their trauma.
